23rd Anniversary of the Tatra Mountains Tragedy
January 28th is the day we annually commemorate the tragic events that took place in the Tatra Mountains.
This year, the day before the anniversary, the school administration, teachers, and Ms. Urszula Mandera – the former principal of our school, paid tribute to those who died at the cemetery in Wartogłowiec.
As every year, on January 28th at 11:00 AM, students, teachers, and administration gathered at the plaque commemorating the Tatra Mountains tragedy. Together, we laid flowers and lit a candle, paying our respects to our classmates who passed away too soon. The Minister of Sport and Tourism, Mr. Jakub Rutnicki, the Mayor of Tychy, Mr. Maciej Gramatyka, and Łukasz Ściebiorowski, Member of the Polish Parliament, also participated in our ceremonies commemorating the tragedy. They lit candles at the commemorative plaque, an important symbol of remembrance.
Furthermore, the Minister and the President wished this year’s high school graduates good luck in their final exams and wished all students the best of luck in pursuing their passions. Remembering those who tragically died is incredibly important to us. It is not only a moment of reflection, but also a reminder of the fragility of life and the values of community. What happened 23 years ago should serve as a warning to always approach the mountains and pursue our dreams with humility.
We thank everyone who participated in this ceremony, showing respect and remembrance for our tragically deceased colleagues. Let us stand together in memory of those who will always be part of our community!
